Agentic AI vs Deepfakes: The Bigger Danger No One’s Talking About

Remember when deepfakes were the biggest AI scare? Fake videos of politicians, cloned celebrity voices, even scams that tricked family members—it felt like something out of a movie.

But now, there’s something even scarier: Agentic AI.

Unlike deepfakes, which just show you something fake, agentic AI can actually do things on its own. It can:

  • Send out phishing emails,
  • Break into your company’s Slack or email,
  • Pull personal info from calendars,

And even move money—without anyone telling it exactly what to do.

That’s the real shift. We’ve gone from “AI makes fake content” to “AI acts like a hacker on autopilot.”

For businesses, this is huge. Many companies are already testing AI agents for customer service, research, or finance. But every new AI agent is basically a “digital identity” that can be hijacked. Security experts say we could see tens of billions of these AI agents online soon—and most companies aren’t prepared.

So here’s the big question for all of us: Are we ready for a world where AI doesn’t just create fakes, but actually takes action?

I put together a full write-up with examples and solutions here: Agentic AI Threats: How Autonomous AI Is More Dangerous Than Deepfakes

Would love to hear what this community thinks—do you see Agentic AI as the next big cyber threat, or just hype?
