[Personal Project #8] UEFA Women’s Euro 2025: Norway Reached the Quarter-Finals — How?

Norway: Two Wins, Fast Track to the Quarter-Finals

The Group A matches of UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 are underway, and Norway has already secured their spot in the quarter-finals with two wins.

But these wins came in very different ways. Let’s see how Norway managed it!

Match 1: Switzerland vs Norway

2nd July 2025, 8 PM (BST)
Score: Switzerland 1 – 2 Norway

Image description

Key Stats:

  • xG: Switzerland 0.97 – 1.78 Norway
  • Total Shots: Switzerland 17 – 8 Norway
  • Possession: Switzerland 55% – 45% Norway
  • Goalkeeper Saves: Switzerland 1 – 6 Norway
  • Goals Prevented by Goalkeeper: Switzerland 0.26 – -0.39 Norway

🔸Norway created fewer chances but made the most of them.
🔸Norway’s goalkeeper had a mixed day with some mistakes but also made key saves.
🔸Smart attacking and solid goalkeeping led to the win.

Match 2: Norway vs Finland

6th July 2025, 6 PM (BST)
Score: Norway 2 – 1 Finland

Image description

Key Stats:

  • xG: Norway 0.84 – 1.11 Finland
  • Total Shots: Norway 9 – 15 Finland
  • Shots on Target: Norway 3 – 6 Finland
  • Goalkeeper Saves: Norway 5 – 1 Finland
  • Goals Prevented by Goalkeeper: Norway 0.48 – -0.01 Finland

🔸Norway had fewer and lower quality chances than Finland.
🔸But Norway’s defense and goalkeeper were very effective, helping secure the win.

What We Learned

Norway won both matches — but with very different styles:

  • Match 1: Attack-focused and efficient finishing
  • Match 2: Defense and great goalkeeping made the difference

This shows that Norway is a strong team that can win in multiple ways.

Personal Thought

Norway isn’t necessarily strong in attack or defense, but they get the job done with efficient, smart play.
