From disclosure to durable protection: lessons from CVE-2026-113341
The important question after a browser patch is whether the protection reaches the devices that need it. CVE-2026-113341 affects Google Chrome on Android before 156.0.8078.47 and is described by the Chrome CNA as a critical Skia use-after-free that can lead to code execution outside the sandbox through crafted HTML.
The disclosure provides a fixed version and a narrow platform scope. It does not provide a public trigger or an incident report. A durable response therefore combines a fast update, reliable version inventory, user awareness, and evidence that the fixed package remains active.
Vulnerability overview
Chrome classifies CVE-2026-113341 as CWE-416 and Critical. The affected product is Chrome on Android before 156.0.8078.47. The release page names Chrome 156 stable builds and links the restricted Chromium issue 569165786.
CISA ADP adds CVSS 3.1 6.5 with network access, required user interaction, high confidentiality impact, exploitation none, and automatable no. NVD records the same CNA weakness and secondary score.
Mechanism and exploitation conditions
Skia creates and manages resources used to draw web content. A use-after-free occurs when a resource is released but a stale reference remains. If the memory is reused, the resulting behavior can range from a crash to memory corruption. The public record does not identify the vulnerable object or the exact crafted HTML feature.
The CNA says a remote attacker uses a crafted page and that user interaction is required. It does not specify whether the victim must click, open a link, or load a particular rendering element. Treat more detailed attack narratives as hypotheses until an authoritative source supports them.
Impact
The CNA's outside-sandbox statement raises the possible impact beyond a renderer-only fault. The CVSS vector places its emphasis on confidentiality, which may reflect the ADP's assessed outcome. Both facts should appear in an internal assessment, followed by a note that the public issue is restricted.
A browser compromise could affect sessions and web-accessible data on the device. The exact reach depends on the exploit chain and the permissions of the compromised process. No public evidence in these sources confirms an active campaign.
Affected products and scope
The CNA and NVD scope the vulnerability to Chrome on Android before 156.0.8078.47. The Chrome release also lists desktop stable versions, but that does not remove the Android qualifier from the CVE record.
Other Chromium-based products should be evaluated with their own advisories. The shared Skia component is not a universal affected-product statement. In particular, do not assume that Chrome, WebView, and Edge have the same package range or update path.
Exposure context
ZoomEye Search product="Chrome" returned 825 product matches. Filter vul.cve="CVE-2026-113341" returned 0. Exposure is 825, the larger selected count, and it is a broad product observation rather than a confirmed vulnerable-device count.
That number is useful for an external discussion but insufficient for patch management. Use device inventory to count Chrome packages below the fixed version and to distinguish Android from desktop.
Remediation and mitigations
Update Chrome on Android to 156.0.8078.47 or later through an official channel. Verify the package version after the update. Remove older manually installed APKs and make the approved app channel the expected path.
For managed fleets, set and monitor a minimum version. For unmanaged devices, give users a precise verification step and record responses. If a device remains vulnerable, limit access to high-value web applications and document the exception. Network filtering may reduce some delivery paths but does not fix the browser.
Durable controls
Track browser packages separately from operating-system versions. Test update reporting after deployment so the console does not confuse an install request with an active fixed build. Maintain a list of unverified devices and review it on a schedule.
Keep the CVE record, vendor release, device evidence, and exception decision together. That package lets the next reviewer understand what was known, what was assumed, and why the risk was accepted or closed.
