I’m building Opstan: a decentralized social network on a mining-powered blockchain
I’ve been working on Opstan, a project that combines two ideas in one system:
- a decentralized blockchain
- a built-in social network
The goal is simple: create a network with no central owner, no central server, and no single point of control, where the blockchain itself is maintained by participants through mining, similar to Bitcoin.
But unlike a traditional blockchain focused only on transactions, Opstan also includes a social layer inside the network itself.
What Opstan is
Opstan is a mining-powered decentralized blockchain social network.
Users can run a node, join the network, and interact inside the system itself.
The idea is to make the blockchain not just a ledger, but also a place where communication and user activity can exist natively.
In simple words:
Opstan is like a Bitcoin-style mining-based blockchain, but with a social network built directly into it.
Core ideas
The project is based on a few core principles:
- Decentralization — no central authority controls the network
- Mining-based security — the blockchain is maintained by miners and node participants
- Open participation — anyone can run the standard node and join
- Native social layer — messages, channels, and interaction exist inside the blockchain network
Current status
The network is already live.
At the moment:
- more than 10,000 blocks have already been mined
- the blockchain is running
- the node is working
- the website is live at https://opstan.org
Why I’m building it
A lot of blockchain projects focus only on tokens, speculation, or financial mechanics.
What I wanted to explore is a different direction:
what happens if the blockchain itself becomes the foundation for a social network?
That means the network is not just about balances or transfers, but also about communication, public activity, channels, and interaction between users.
Technical direction
The project is being built as a real working system, not just a concept page.
The main focus is on:
- node software
- peer-to-peer networking
- mining
- blockchain synchronization
- running a live decentralized network
- integrating a social layer into the chain ecosystem
A big part of the work is making the network function as an open system supported by independent participants.

Feedback
I’m sharing this because I’d like feedback from developers, blockchain builders, Rust developers, and people interested in decentralized systems.
I’d be especially interested in feedback on:
- the technical concept
- blockchain + social network architecture
- node usability
- possible risks or weak points
- what you would improve first
If this sounds interesting to you, I’d be glad to hear your thoughts.
