A Garden Instead of a Chessboard: A New Model of Power and Leadership

This article examines the fundamental shift in the management paradigm, moving from rigid, hierarchical, chessboard-like structures to flexible, garden-like ecosystems. Drawing on the experiences of General Stanley McChrystal and the Team of Teams concept, the text explains why traditional command models fail to cope with today's complexity and rapid change. The key pillars of this new architecture are shared awareness and empowered execution, which enable organizations to rapidly adapt. The author highlights the evolution of the leader's role: from a micromanaging strategist who moves pieces to a gardener who cultivates a culture of trust and the right conditions for growth. This calls for the decentralization of authority and the development of structures with high decision-making capacity, capable of surviving in an unpredictable environment.
