You really got a point here Samuel. I read the basecamp books too and I think they are full of good advice. Nevertheless I am facing a growing sense of hypocracy in our industry.

EVERYONE is agile, lean and provides an envrionment in which employees can fully embrace themselves, both personal and professional.

Just that in reality no one does it.

It is even worse, most of them don't even understand the company values they write in their homepage.

Last time I switched my job I went on and asked the potential employers two questions.

(1) Do you work agile?

And if so:

(2) What do you exactly do that is agile?

Most people were baffled.

The problem becomes even more obvious if you look at the job postings that recruiters these days post on the social networks. At best you call them superficial. They are full with buzzwords that used to mean something, just that they don't anymore.

Thank you for this feedback. It is good to know I'm not hallucinating the hypocrisy of the industry.

No one really dares to talk about it, hence why I choose "the emperor with no clothes" as the post illustration.

You are NOT hallucinating! I have been thinking about this hypocrisy for four years now. The hypocrisy has even helped seed my mid-life crisis. I've been disillusioned that I will ever find a job that upholds such values especially when so many of my industry peers also do not uphold such values.
