hi, i'm gábor, a solo developer from hungary.
a few months ago i noticed something annoying. my long codex sessions slowly got worse. after enough compactions the model started forgetting decisions i made earlier, redoing work that was already done, or ignoring constraints i gave it. i didn't notice right away. the session just felt heavier and heavier, and i was burning time and usage on it.
so i built freshthread.
it's a small windows app that sits next to codex. it shows how loaded the current session is, live. when i decide it's time, one click opens a fresh codex task, and my goals, decisions, finished work and next steps come with me. no copy-pasting, no starting from zero.
a few things were important to me while building it:
- session data stays on your computer
- the part that connects to codex is open source, so anyone can check what the app receives
- it only goes online for updates, and for bug reports if you choose to send one
it's a free beta for windows right now. i launched a few days ago and honestly, it's been pretty quiet. which is fine, i'm learning that building is the easy part.
with all the plan and usage changes this week, wasting usage on a tired session hurts even more. so i'm curious:
do you notice long codex sessions getting worse? what do you do about it?
any feedback helps, even "i wouldn't use this, because...".
