Yesterday I was building a SaaS CRM. Today I'm running a GHL agency.

Here's why I pivoted and what I learned.


The Original Plan

Build TradeSuite:

  • CRM for Louisiana trades (electricians, HVAC, plumbers)
  • Self-hosted Directus + Next.js frontend
  • $29-149/mo SaaS pricing
  • 6-12 months to first revenue

The math made sense. Trade businesses need CRMs. I can build one.


The Discovery

I researched the LaSalle Parish and Jena, Louisiana markets.

What I found:

  • ~20-25 local trade businesses
  • Each losing $1,000-2,000/month from missed calls
  • Most don't have voicemail-to-SMS
  • Most don't know what they're losing

The missed calls are the problem. Not the CRM.

Agency model wins because:

  • Faster to revenue (weeks not months)
  • Zero marketing budget (walk into businesses)
  • Immediate feedback loop
  • Real revenue funds SaaS development later

What I Built Today

  1. ravenops.ai - Portfolio site, live on Railway
  2. GHL SMS flow design - 5-step automation for trades
  3. Day 9 journey content - X posts ready to publish

The New Plan

  1. Get phone number in GHL (this week)
  2. Build SMS workflow (this week)
  3. Walk into 3 local businesses with demo (next week)
  4. Close first client (waived setup fee for first 5)

First revenue target: 2-3 weeks.
