Why I Chose Computer Science and What I Hope to Build

Hello, everyone! I am a first-year Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) student. I am currently beginning my journey into the world of programming, technology, and software development.

I chose Computer Science because I want to understand how computer programs work and how technology can be used to create useful and interesting things. One of my biggest goals is to become a game developer in the future. I know that this journey will not always be easy, but I am willing to learn, practice, and improve my skills step by step.

Why I Chose Computer Science

For me, Computer Science is more than just using computers. It is about learning how to solve problems, think logically, and turn ideas into something useful.

There are several reasons why I chose this course:

  • My interest in technology: I want to learn more about how software and applications are created.
  • My dream of becoming a game developer: I want to create games that people can enjoy.
  • My willingness to learn: Even though I am still a beginner, I want to improve my programming knowledge.
  • Future opportunities: Computer Science can help me develop skills that are useful in different areas of technology.

I believe that being a good programmer requires patience, creativity, and a willingness to learn from mistakes.

My First Steps in Programming

As a beginner, I am learning the fundamentals of programming using C++. Some of the concepts I have encountered include variables, data types, operators, input and output, and basic program structures.

One of the first examples that beginners often encounter is the classic Hello, World! program.

Here is a simple C++ example:

include

using namespace std;

int main() {
cout << "Hello, World!" << endl;
return 0;
}

This program displays the message "Hello, World!" on the screen.

Here is what the important parts do:

  • "#include " allows the program to use input and output features.
  • "using namespace std;" lets us use standard library names such as "cout" without writing "std::" each time.
  • "int main()" is the main function where the program begins executing.
  • "cout" displays text on the screen.
  • "return 0;" indicates that the program has finished successfully.

Although this program is simple, it is a good starting point for understanding how code works.

My Challenges and Goals

Learning programming can sometimes be confusing, especially when I encounter unfamiliar syntax or errors in my code. However, I understand that making mistakes is part of the learning process.

To improve, I plan to:

  1. Practice coding regularly.
  2. Review the programming concepts discussed in class.
  3. Learn how to identify and fix errors.
  4. Explore different programming languages and development tools.
  5. Work on small projects that will help me gain experience.

I also want to learn more about game development, including game design, programming logic, and the tools used to create interactive games.

What I Hope to Build in the Future

My long-term goal is to become a game developer who can turn creative ideas into playable experiences. I hope to build games that are enjoyable, engaging, and memorable for players.

I understand that I still have a lot to learn, but I believe that every small project and every programming lesson can bring me closer to my goal.

For now, I will focus on strengthening my fundamentals and developing good programming habits.

Conclusion

Choosing Computer Science is the beginning of an exciting learning journey for me. I may still be a beginner, but I am motivated to gain more knowledge and improve my skills.

I believe that success in programming does not happen overnight. It takes time, effort, practice, and patience.

I am excited to see how far I can go and what I can create in the future.
