Have a separate computer for work and play, on your work computer install cold turkey so you don't work at stupid hours (it has a brutal feature called "frozen turkey" that locks you out of your computer at certain times - great for if you have no self discipline but be super careful you don't lock it when you need it as it is difficult to circumvent🤣)!
Get a sit-stand desk - a good chair I 100% agree with but even with a great chair sitting all day is still no good. Swapping between sitting and standing has got rid of most of my aches and pains!
Do not disturb - some of you may not have this option but I do - I have a couple of times in a day where my email client is shut, my phone is on do not disturb and sat away from me and (because of cold turkey) I have very limited access to the internet, blocking social media, gmail, youtube etc. etc. These slots of defined "focus time" mean you get a load done and ironically make you more available to answer queries as you can get a lot more done in 1 hour with no interruptions than you can with 3 hours of interrupted work.
Bonus Tip (that's how listicles work isn't it?): Install rescue time. It let me see just how unproductive I was when I thought I was working hard, task switching often, answering emails too quickly etc. Yet again you may not have the same flexibility I have but if you do this is another amazing app that really lets you dig into your working habits you may not be aware of!
I am a professional DevOps Engineer with a demonstrated history of working in the internet industry. I am an avid Linux lover and supporter of the open-source movement philosophy.
Great tips! Love this!
I've used cold turkey in the past but had to uninstall it as it was causing a crash loop for chrome sometimes. Maybe that bug is fixed now, I should install it again and give it a try!
