You made a good point. I wouldn't call coding an hobby, but something useful to my career so yeah, like going to the gym it helps me stay fit as a developer.
I think personal projects should be funnier than your regular job, but you still need to put some effort even when you start dealing with difficult or annoying bugs. That's why I wouldn't call that an hobby, you're still doing some work, and in some ways even if you're learning a new language or trying something not related to your current job it is all about what you do for a living, coding.
