Edemy LMS — Making Online Learning Accessible for Everyone 🎓
This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Weekend Challenge: Build for a Friend.
What I Built
I built Edemy LMS, a Learning Management System designed to make online education more accessible and convenient for students and instructors.
The idea behind Edemy LMS is simple: learning should be easy to access, and instructors should have a simple way to share their knowledge with others.
Students can explore available courses, enroll in courses, purchase learning content, and track their learning progress. Instructors can publish courses and share their knowledge through an online platform.
I wanted to build something practical that could help students learn new skills without being restricted by location or the availability of traditional classroom education.
Key Features
- 📚 Course Discovery: Browse available courses and find learning materials.
- 👨🎓 Student Enrollment: Enroll in courses and access learning content.
- 💳 Online Payments: Integrated Stripe for course purchases.
- 📈 Progress Tracking: Track learning progress throughout a course.
- 🎥 Multimedia Learning: Support for video-based learning content.
- ✍️ Course Creation: Rich-text editing for creating course content.
- 🔐 Authentication: Secure user authentication using Clerk.
- ☁️ Media Management: Cloudinary integration for managing course media.
My goal was to create a platform that makes the learning experience smoother for students while giving instructors the tools to share their expertise.

The project is built with modern web technologies and is open for developers who want to explore the implementation, learn from the code, or contribute improvements.
How I Built It
I built Edemy LMS using the MERN ecosystem and modern frontend tools.
Tech Stack
- Frontend: React.js, Vite, Tailwind CSS
- Backend and Database: Node.js, Express.js, MongoDB
- Authentication: Clerk
- Payments: Stripe
- Rich Text Editing: Quill
- Media and Video: Cloudinary and YouTube Player
I focused on building reusable UI components, connecting the frontend with backend functionality, and creating a responsive interface that works across different screen sizes.
I also integrated authentication, payment processing, and media management to make the application more than just a static course listing website.
AI and Open-Source Models: I would love to extend Edemy LMS with open-weight AI models for personalized learning recommendations, AI-generated quizzes, and course assistance. These features could help learners get more value from their courses while keeping the platform flexible and customizable.
Why Does Open Innovation Matter?
Open innovation matters because education should not depend entirely on expensive tools or closed ecosystems.
Building Edemy LMS with open-source technologies gave me the freedom to customize the application, understand how its components work together, and build features around real learning needs.
It also makes the project easier for other developers to explore, learn from, and improve. Instead of being locked into a single platform, developers can adapt the system, experiment with new ideas, and integrate additional tools as the project grows.
I believe open-source development is especially valuable in education because developers can collaborate on solutions that make learning more accessible to everyone.
For me, this project is not just about building an LMS. It is also about learning by building something useful and creating a foundation that can grow with feedback from real users.
My Agent Session
I haven't included an agent session link yet. If I record a development session using DevRelay, I'll add it here.
Prize Categories
This project focuses on open-source web development and educational technology.
I'll update this section with the specific partner prize categories that match the project's actual implementation and the challenge requirements.
Thanks for checking out Edemy LMS! ❤️
If you have suggestions, feedback, or ideas for improving the platform, I'd love to hear them.
