Anthropic’s Personal Finance tool for Claude connects bank accounts and credit cards through Plaid, then categorizes transactions and answers questions about spending.
Its access is read-only: it cannot move, manage or invest money.
Anthropic says it can access up to two years of transaction history, while Personal Finance conversations are not used to train its models.
The tool aggregates spending from connected accounts and breaks it down into categories, such as rent and bills, food, and shopping. Users can ask if they're spending more than usual or if they've overlooked a charge.
Personal Finance can also flag potential double charges, unexpected fees, and bills that are gradually increasing. Users can even ask if they are spending more than they earn. Claude can explain financial concepts, such as the annual percentage rate, and calculate how much they have paid in interest over the past year.
According to Anthropic, Claude only has access to the bank name, account name and type, the last four digits of the account number, balances, credit limits, and up to two years of transaction history. The company also says that conversations with Claude within Personal Finance are not used to train its models.

The Personal Finance trial is rolling out to Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers in the U.S. the week of the announcement. According to Anthropic, the tool has no ads or push offers and does not offer its own credit cards, loans, or savings accounts.
ChatGPT introduced similar personal finance tools in May. Earlier this year, Anthropic also introduced Claude for Legal and Claude for Financial Services, tools for legal and financial matters.
