Apple’s Home Collection is designed to work with its new HomeView smart-home hub.
The lineup spans a smart lock, video doorbell, thermostat, room temperature sensor and security cameras; the lock may recognize an authorized user nearby and unlock automatically.
The devices are designed to work with HomeView, Apple's new hub for the smart home. Through HomeView, users can control connected devices and use Apple's software. The company says it created the series in partnership with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric.
The smart lock costs $349,95. It uses wireless technology that calculates more accurately than Bluetooth how close an authorized user is. This can allow the lock to automatically unlock the door when they approach.
The wired doorbell with camera costs $249,95. It allows residents to see visitors and receive notifications when someone approaches the property. When the doorbell rings, a sound will be heard from devices like HomeView, HomePod, and HomePod mini. Users will also receive notifications on their iPhone or iPad.
The temperature sensor shows conditions in individual rooms and helps users identify temperature differences between spaces.
The line includes cameras for both indoor and outdoor use. One model combines outdoor lighting with video surveillance and costs $399,95. The cameras offer live video, motion detection, alerts, and video storage.
The series could help Apple compete with Amazon Ring and Google Nest in the smart home security market.
