Apple introduces HomeView, a new smart display and speaker for the home

Apple has introduced HomeView, a new smart display and speaker system acting as a home automation hub.

Built with a 7-inch Liquid Retina display, the device integrates with smart home hardware, supports Siri AI context via connected iPhones, and features facial recognition, guest modes, and cross-device handoff capabilities.

The device works with a variety of smart home accessories, including security cameras, locks, and thermostats from companies like LG and Schneider Electric. HomeView aggregates your most frequently used apps and acts as a central control point through the app. It also displays recently used apps.

Siri support and recipes

The Siri digital assistant draws information from a connected iPhone to understand context and user requests.

Additionally, the Safari recipe integration can highlight ingredients and instructions, and includes shortcuts for timers. Users can bring up a recipe from Safari on their iPhone by simply holding it near the screen.

Design and placement options

HomeView features a 7-inch screen inside an aluminum frame. It comes in two versions:

  • Desktop model: It has a base with additional speakers for better performance at low frequencies.
  • Wall-mounted model: It is based on two full-range speakers.

Security and identification functions

For security and data protection, the device features facial recognition to display personalized screens. When the device does not recognize anyone or no one is in front of it, a guest mode is activated. In addition, users can unlock the device using their iPhone.
