Code discovered in HomeView 27.2 hints at upcoming security camera capabilities, including HomeKit Secure Video integration and privacy controls for household members.
Apple has not officially confirmed the feature.
What the device code revealed
A Reddit user spotted references to security camera functionality within the HomeView 27.2 software update. Specifically, the code states that the device will be able to be used as a security camera via the HomeKit Secure Video service.
It's unclear whether the option will be available from day one of the device's launch or if it's being rolled out in a future software update. Apple has not made any official announcement about the feature, but the first devices are expected to arrive on November 13, with the pink color available then and the other colors requiring a two to three week wait.
How privacy protection will work
The code also shows that Apple is planning privacy safeguards. According to the indications, recordings and live view will be visible only to members of the same household.
