Disruptive creates $10 billion fund for artificial intelligence and defense

Investment firm Disruptive has announced a $10 billion flagship fund targeting late-stage companies in AI and defense, aiming to issue checks of up to $1 billion for at least 10 firms.

The new fund focuses on capital-intensive areas such as artificial intelligence and defense. The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month that the fund had already secured at least $7,5 billion in capital commitments.

This is the company's first fund in which investors commit money without knowing in advance which companies will be funded. Disruptive was founded in 2012 by Alex Davis. In the past, it has invested in well-known companies such as Palantir, Airbnb, Spotify, as well as chip startup Groq and voice AI company ElevenLabs.

According to data the company provided to investors and published by Bloomberg, Disruptive has returned more than $6 billion of the roughly $1,9 billion it has invested in startups. The new fund is the largest investment fund ever raised in Texas history, according to the Dallas Business Journal.
