Enlightenment 0.28 is now available as the first major update to the desktop environment since early 2025.
The release adds a Network Manager module supporting Wi-Fi, wired, Bluetooth, and VPN, a native PipeWire mixer, and an integrated clipboard history tool.
Portable device support is also improved with charge limits and ACPI power profiles, while source builds require EFL v1.29.0 or newer.
New features and improvements
The new version includes a network management module that supports wireless and wired connections, as well as Bluetooth and VPN connections. In the audio area, a native management tool has been added that works in parallel with the previous one, while a clipboard history function has also been integrated with options to configure content and storage per session.
Mobile devices are now better supported, with features like battery charge limits, processor power profiles, and resource control. However, per-desktop and per-display profile support was removed in version 0.28.
Installation and requirements
Compiling the source code for version 0.28.0 requires core system libraries version 1.29.0 or later. The Ubuntu 26.04 repositories contain an older version of Enlightenment.
