Dream is developing AI tools to automate building design and engineering.
Its model was trained on more than 100 million square feet of building data from US permit archives, and the company describes its approach as “structural cognition”: generating designs that account for plumbing, HVAC and weight-bearing beams.
The platform is in 10 active projects in Texas and California, supporting design concepts and overall cost estimates.
Alder had led product design for an 800-person team at Palantir, while Mather was vice president of its commercial business. Dream aims to automate architectural and mechanical building design, replacing legacy programs such as AutoCAD and Autodesk's Revit.
Education funding and data
The company officially launched with a $17 million funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from SV Angel, XYZ, and Zigg Capital.
Kimberly Tan, a partner at Andreessen Horowitz, said the investment came more than a year ago, when the idea was still in its early stages. Dream's system has been trained on more than 100 million square feet of data, drawn from building permit records across the United States.
How the platform works
The company calls its approach structural perception. The system produces designs that account for internal elements such as piping, heating and air conditioning systems, and load-bearing beams.

The platform is already being used on 10 active projects in California and Texas, helping with initial design and estimating total costs. Other companies attempting to revamp construction software with AI include Motif, Snaptrude, and Arcol, according to the founders.
