General Motors plans a major manufacturing shift in Lansing, investing over $2 billion in the region with $1.25 billion allocated to retool the Lansing Delta Township assembly plant for hybrid vehicle production, alongside grant restructuring talks with the Department of Energy.

The bulk of that funding, about $1,25 billion, will go toward preparing the assembly plant in Lansing Delta Township. The company is also working with the U.S. Department of Energy to leverage a $500 million government grant that was previously approved for a different plant but never awarded.

Today, this plant manufactures gasoline-powered vehicles and set a production record of 291.000 cars in 2025. General Motors has not yet announced exactly when the hybrid models will begin to be available, however, information indicates that hybrid versions will be released in various brands of the group.

The move comes at a time when the hybrid market is experiencing strong demand in the United States. The company continues to market pure electric cars, having previously invested heavily in them, a strategy that has begun to adapt due to demand and changes in related legislation.
