Google’s Pixel support schedule ties update coverage to each model’s availability through the US Google Store.
The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro reach end of support in October 2026, while Pixel 8 and newer models are covered for seven years.
The schedule includes regular security updates and major system upgrades, offering a clear view of device support lifecycles.
Google measures the duration from the month each model became available for purchase in the Google Store in the US. The period covers regular security updates and major system upgrades.
When do updates stop?
The original Pixel through the Pixel 5a no longer receive updates. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 families, as well as the original Pixel Fold, are covered for five years from the month they were released.
The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro reach end of support in October 2026. The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will receive their last update by the end of October 2027. In the A series, updates for the Pixel 6a stop after July 2027 and for the Pixel 7a after May 2028.
Starting with the Pixel 8, Google is offering seven years of updates. The Pixel 8 and 8 Pro will stop receiving them after October 2030. For the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro, updates will stop after August and September 2031 respectively, as they were released in the same months of 2024. The Pixel 10 and 10 Pro will stop receiving updates after August 2032, while support for the Pixel 11 and 11 Pro extends until August 2033.
The A-series models have different dates. The Pixel 8a, released in May 2024, will stop receiving updates after May 2031. The Pixel 9a was released in April 2025 and its updates will stop after April 2032. The Pixel 10a was released less than a year later and is expected to receive its last update around March 2033.
What changes when updates stop
You can continue to use your Pixel after the latest update. However, if new security issues are discovered, they will not be fixed for that device. It is recommended that you choose a new device or a model that is still receiving updates.
Installing different software, such as GrapheneOS or LineageOS, on a Pixel without official support does not ensure full protection. This is because such updates do not cover all parts of the software provided by the manufacturer.
LineageOS still supports the original 2016 Pixel and almost all Pixels released since then. On an older Pixel, however, its updates cover some, but not all, parts of the system. Banking apps, digital wallets, and games with strict security controls may also not work.
