Ikea enters the smart home security space with a Matter-enabled lineup of hubs, sensors, and accessories that integrate with Alexa, Google Home, and HomeKit.
Explore the architecture, component pricing, and how the hardware works with standard smart home controllers.
The company doesn't sell pre-packaged kits, but lets users individually choose the components they need for their space. The line includes door and window sensors, motion sensors, and water leak sensors, as well as additional options like night lights, air quality sensors, and smart plugs.
How connection and control work
For those who want to use the official Ikea mobile app, you need the Dirigera central control unit, which is connected to the router via a cable. The unit supports various wireless communication standards and acts as a connection bridge. However, the sensors can work without it, as long as they are connected to any other compatible network controller.
The series doesn't offer official security cameras or a professional monitoring service. This means users have to monitor their space themselves via notifications on their mobile phones. Tests have shown that installation is simple, notifications arrive promptly, and automations run smoothly.
