KDE Plasma 6.8, scheduled for 14 October 2026, addresses several desktop usability bugs: lag when arranging windows on some NVIDIA cards with proprietary drivers, unreliable automatic Flatpak updates in Discover, and keyboard-navigation issues in KRunner.
It also fixes key repeat when Slow Keys is enabled, an accessibility feature that delays registering a pressed key.
On some NVIDIA graphics cards, which use the company's special software to operate them, arranging windows on the screen could under certain circumstances cause delays and hangs. Plasma 6.8 fixes the issue.
Automatic updates of Flatpak applications via Discover, the KDE application manager, have not always worked reliably. Plasma 6.8 fixes this when automatic updates are enabled.
In KRunner, the KDE application search and launcher, it is now easier to navigate through results with the arrow keys. It also fixes an issue that occurred when navigating with the Tab key.
The new version also fixes an issue with key repetition when the Slow Keys feature is enabled. This feature helps those who have difficulty pressing keys accurately: for a key press to be registered, they must hold the key down for a specified time.
Another change concerns the weather widget. When it can't find weather data, it will display an explanation instead of a small, blank message.
Changes in other KDE versions as well
Plasma 6.7.6 will fix the appearance of an unnecessary keyboard lighting control on devices that do not support this feature.
KDE Frameworks 6.32 will fix an issue that could crash Qt applications and related to blurry help popups. It will also improve the display of country flags in the keyboard layout options when the screen magnification exceeds 100%.
Meanwhile, the developers are preparing changes for Plasma 6.9. Plans include an option to disable the Spectacle notification when screen recording starts, better virtual desktop thumbnails in the KWin overview, and a hint to troubleshoot firewall issues when network printers are not detected. The ability to adjust the brightness of connected backlit keyboards after the user is logged in is also planned.
On October 14, 2026, along with Plasma 6.8, KDE will present the documentary “KDE: The Documentary.” The film examines the history of KDE, from Matthias Ettrich’s 1996 proposal for a Linux desktop environment and the developments that followed.
