Luminar has shifted to a hybrid pricing model, offering a one-time purchase for core editing features while maintaining an annual subscription requirement for AI-based tools like GenErase.
The software, which supports RAW files, requires at least 16GB of RAM.
It currently lacks keyword metadata support, tethered camera control, and passkey authentication.
Developers and power users should also note reported stability issues with the internal catalog system.
Editions and cost
Luminar is available in three versions:
- Desktop Only: 129 dollars
- All Platforms: 159 dollars
- High: 199 dollars
Basic features are covered by a one-time purchase. AI tools, such as GenErase and GenExpand, require an annual subscription.
What it offers
The program supports Raw files from many digital cameras. It also features a Restoration feature, which uses artificial intelligence to restore color and damage to old photos.

You can even sync changes you've made to photos from your mobile device to the desktop version. The app is organized on a single screen, with two main views: Library for your photos and Edit for editing them.
Restrictions and requirements
Luminar doesn't allow organizing photos by keywords or filtering based on information contained in their files. Testing also showed instability in the catalog file, which the program uses to track photos.
The app does not have a second way to verify your identity when logging in and does not support passkeys. It also cannot be used to control a connected camera from the computer.
According to the manufacturer, 16 GB of RAM is required for it to run smoothly.
