Meta has made Muse Voice available to all its users in the US, enabling voice and video calls with its consumer AI assistant.
Real-time conversations are supported on mobile, the web and Mac.
Muse uses a customizable animated avatar called Jolly; Meta says its expressions and movements match the conversation's tone.
It is a concrete consumer example of voice, video and avatar-based AI interaction.
Meta announced the feature on Thursday. It was first shown off at its Connect conference in September. During a conversation, an animated digital character nicknamed Jolly appears on the screen. Users can change it to look like a person, an animal or another character. According to Meta, the character uses expressions and movements that match the tone of the conversation.
Users can ask Muse questions or ask it to take on tasks. Meta believes that the human appearance of the digital figure can make users feel closer to the assistant.
Meta’s AI chief Alexandr Wang introduced the feature in a post on X. He told Muse that the memes he uploads may have gotten him in trouble with his boss. His digital avatar, a white dog, suggested adding clarifications to memes that could be taken as a sign that Meta is supporting something bold.
