Meta gives Facebook users more control over their feed

Meta is rolling out an algorithm personalization feature for Facebook and Reels powered by large language models.

The update introduces menus for interest management and text boxes for custom topic descriptions, following a similar Instagram rollout.

With this update, when someone is browsing Facebook, they can select a post or video and a new menu will open. From there, they can add specific topics to their interests or to a list of topics they don't want to see. There's also a text box where they can write in their own words exactly what they want to appear in their feed.

This change is based on the artificial intelligence technology that Meta uses to rank content.

A similar feature was added to Instagram earlier this year. However, that version had limitations, as it didn't allow users to request fewer ads or mark posts from accounts they followed as interesting.
