New IPFire 2.29 Core Update 204 to fix connection issues

The IPFire project has released Core Update 204 for version 2.29 of its Linux-based firewall distribution.

This update fixes a Knot Resolver source IP regression affecting VPN clients, rebases the kernel on Linux 6.18.54, and updates core packages including OpenSSL, OpenSSH, BIND, and systemd.

Fix connection issues and kernel upgrade

The new update fixes an issue where the system was sending responses from the wrong address, affecting those using remote connection services such as IPsec, WireGuard, and OpenVPN. At the same time, the system kernel is now based on the latest Linux version 6.18.54 for greater stability and security.

Additionally, WireGuard users can now properly import configuration files containing multiple sub-groups separated by spaces. An issue that caused a delay during shutdown when the corresponding service was not running has also been fixed.

Program upgrades and future plans

The update includes new versions of many core programs and tools, including Apache, Bash, BIND, cURL, OpenSSH, OpenSSL, SQLite, systemd, and more. Additional packages such as ClamAV, FFmpeg, Git, HAProxy, Postfix, rsync, and Transmission have also been updated, and new data reporting capabilities have been added for the Observium Agent and Zabbix tools.
