OpenAI president Greg Brockman said the company could be ready to go public in 2027, with no date set.

For developers, his account also offers a snapshot of the AI coding-tools race: he said OpenAI had little presence in the market as Anthropic’s Claude Code gained ground, while OpenAI’s Codex drew little attention at the time.

He described stronger activity in Q3 2026.

Brockman described the first and second quarters of 2026 as difficult for OpenAI’s journey into the enterprise market. The company didn’t have a significant presence in the AI programming tools space at the time, where Anthropic had gained traction with Claude Code. OpenAI had Codex, but, Brockman said, hardly anyone was talking about it at the time.

OpenAI’s business picked up in the third quarter of 2026. Brockman said its annualized revenue growth rate — an estimate of a year’s revenue if the same rate continued — was up 70% from the previous quarter. He attributed the increase to a doubling of revenue from enterprise customers. He added that the growth was due to investments made up to that point, not just what happened in the third quarter.

Now, the majority of OpenAI’s revenue comes from businesses. Previously, businesses accounted for about 30% of total revenue. Brockman said that revenue from individuals continues to grow, while business activity has grown significantly. He cited OpenAI’s partnership with JPMorgan Chase as an example of a large client.
