OpenAI has reduced its latest funding target to $20 billion, securing $11 billion so far amid a more cautious investor climate surrounding heavy AI infrastructure expenditures.
According to reports in the Financial Times and the Wall Street Journal, the company has lowered its target to $20 billion, having so far raised $11 billion. Previous reports had suggested a target of $30 billion, in a process that initially valued the company higher in anticipation of a future IPO.
Who participates and what follows?
The new funding is expected to be led by investors from the United Arab Emirates. The company is also planning a separate offering to wealthy private investors, which could help it eventually reach its $20 billion goal.
The attitude of investors
The response from some major investors has been lukewarm. Analysts believe that this situation may be due to a change in attitude on Wall Street, as many investors are now more cautious about the huge amounts spent on artificial intelligence technological infrastructure, which has also caused a drop in technology company shares.
