Permanent daylight saving time changes across multiple Canadian regions have triggered timezone recognition issues in Microsoft Outlook and Exchange Online, leading to inaccurate calendar entries.
Microsoft advises manual configuration while preparing admin tools.
Problems with Outlook and Calendar
Outlook and Exchange Online are having trouble correctly recognizing the time zone in these regions, causing users to see incorrect times in their appointments. Microsoft explains that appointments that have already been saved are not automatically transferred to the correct time. To resolve the issue, the company is suggesting that users manually adjust their time zones, while it is preparing a special tool for system administrators to mass correct appointments.
Manual settings and other services
The issue also affects other services. For the Power Automate Desktop automation program, users must manually select the Arizona or Bogota time zone for it to work correctly. Microsoft is also investigating whether the issue also affects Microsoft Teams.
Regarding Windows, updates have been released since September to correct the time, but these only apply to supported versions of the software. Those using older versions of Windows that are no longer officially supported will not receive an automatic update.
The situation in Google Calendar
The problem also affects Google. The company announced that it is releasing updates for Google Calendar, but warned that these may not reach all users in time, leaving the possibility that users may still see incorrect times.
