Ring introduces new $70 air monitoring device

An overview of the Ring Air Quality Monitor specifications, priced at $69.99 and featuring PM2.5, carbon monoxide, temperature, and humidity tracking.

The unit connects via Amazon Sidewalk rather than standard Wi-Fi and integrates with the Ring mobile app and Amazon Alexa.

Features and design

The device measures 1,8 by 2,6 by 2,6 inches, is white, has an air intake grille on the front, and a USB-C charging port on the bottom. It has a round light indicator on the top that glows green when the air is good and yellow when it is bad.

On the other hand, it does not have a display to show numbers or a built-in speaker for audible warnings. It also does not measure volatile organic compounds.

Connectivity and operation

The device uses Ring's established mobile app, which is available for Android and iOS, and uses Amazon's Sidewalk system to connect to the network instead of your typical home wireless network.

Users can set minimum and maximum thresholds for alerts regarding carbon monoxide, temperature, and humidity. The device works with Amazon's digital assistant, but does not support Google or HomeKit.

In tests conducted, its particle measurements were almost identical to similar devices from other companies.
