Rivian's R2 electric SUV brings a mid-size footprint with configurable single and dual-motor drivetrains, an 88kWh battery architecture supporting 230 kW fast charging, and integrated digital displays running advanced voice controls and hands-free driving systems.

Price and key features

The R2 starts at $44.900 for the base model, with higher-end models costing less than $60.000. Externally, the vehicle retains a squared-off design, recessed door handles and distinctive pill-shaped headlights, strongly reminiscent of the R1S.

The interior includes a dashboard with recycled birch wood accents, a 15,6-inch main display and an 11,5-inch driver display. Up front, there's a 5,2-cubic-foot cargo area with a built-in drain.

Versions, performance and autonomy

The various versions of the vehicle differ in terms of power and operating time:

  • Performance Launch Model: It has a four-wheel drive system with two motors, an output of 656 horsepower and acceleration from standstill to 60 miles per hour in 3,6 seconds.
  • Advanced version: It starts at $53.990 with 450 horsepower and acceleration to 60 miles per hour in 4,6 seconds, with a launch scheduled for late 2026.
  • Basic version: It features a single-motor rear-wheel drive system, 350 horsepower, a range of 275 miles, and acceleration to 60 mph in 5,9 seconds, with arrival in spring 2027.

The advanced and top-of-the-line versions promise a range of 330 miles from an 88kWh battery.

Technology and charging

The self-driving system is available as a $50 monthly subscription or a one-time purchase of $2.500, providing hands-free driving on highways in the United States and Canada. It also plans to add voice assistant control for improved voice and messaging features before the end of the year.

In the area of charging, the vehicle supports power up to 230 kW in a 400-volt architecture, allowing the battery to be recharged from 10% to 80% in approximately 27 minutes.
