Tesla has canceled its planned Cybertruck rollout in Australia and New Zealand, nearly seven years after 2019 pre-orders began.
The regional cancellation involves refunding deposits within 30 days and offering alternative incentives for Model 3 or Model Y orders.
According to the update, customers will be refunded within 30 days of confirming their details in a separate message that will follow. This development concerns those who have been waiting for the vehicle for almost seven years, as pre-orders had been open since 2019.
The offer for other models and the difficulties in driving
As compensation, Tesla is offering a free one-year subscription to the company's assisted driving system, provided that interested parties order a new Model 3 or Model Y. The value of this subscription is approximately $1.250.
Australia had shown great interest in the early stages, ranking third globally in pre-orders behind the United States and Canada in early 2020. However, the country drives on the left side of the road, which created serious difficulties and required major modifications to the vehicle to obtain road approval.
