Apple's new foldable iPhone Duo arrives at $2,000 with a 5.2mm frame.
Early reviews discuss hardware performance alongside compromises like a side fingerprint sensor and omitted zoom lens.
The fingerprint sensor, located on the side of the device, is slow and often requires multiple attempts to unlock. The location of the side button can also be a challenge for left-handed users, while critics have also pointed out the lack of a zoom lens in the camera system. Apple hasn't officially announced why it chose a fingerprint sensor over facial recognition, but a reasonable guess is the difficulty of fitting the components into the 5,2mm frame.
What is Apple preparing for the next models?
According to information shared by Mark German on a podcast, Apple already has prototypes for the iPhone Duo 2. These test devices feature a facial recognition sensor and a camera hidden under the external display.
The move to facial recognition is expected in the second or third generation of the phone, in two to three years. At the same time, the addition of a zoom lens is being considered in a future update, while the internal screen may grow from 7,6 inches to 8,5 or 9 inches in subsequent models.
