Forgejo 17.0 is out, featuring significant improvements to the Forgejo Actions automation system, including support for Markdown-formatted job summaries, tables, and charts.

This release also introduces refined Git LFS management, bulk team membership updates, and a migration tool for Bitbucket Data Center.

Developers can expect continued support for this version through January 2027.

Improvements in daily use

The new version makes the work of developers easier with several additions:

  • Automated processes: The system that runs automated tasks now supports reports with tables, charts, and text formatting, making the results of code checks more readable.
  • Large files: Managing and searching for large files in the project has become simpler.
  • Faster communication: When writing text, the platform now suggests auto-completion when the user types the symbols # and !.

Team management and collaboration

Changes have also been made to the way administrators organize their teams:

  • Member invitations: Group invitations must now be accepted by the user themselves and automatically expire after 14 days.
  • Mass actions: Administrators can add users to multiple groups at once, saving time.
  • Transfer from other services: Added tool to easily transfer projects and history from Bitbucket Data Center to Forgejo.

Project support and updates

Creators can now add a donation button to their projects, using a special configuration file (FUNDING.yml).
