The third beta version of iOS 27.2 brings changes to Apple Music, Apple Books, and the battery icon

iOS 27.2 beta 3 (build 24B5099f) includes interface updates and an inactive code-level setting to disable suggested actions in Messages for Calendar, Reminders, Notes and Maps.

The setting is not enabled in the beta and may not ship in the final release.

9to5Mac estimates that the final version will be released in October, most likely the week of October 26. Apple has not announced a date. The estimate is based on the usual timing of the first feature updates after a major iOS release.

What's new in iOS 27.2

Apple Music is getting a new logo, with a bolder font and a lowercase “m” for the word “music.” It’s currently visible in the sign-up process, but it’s expected to be used in more places.

Apple Books gets a new Menu button with a Liquid Glass design language and a progress bar. The battery icon has been redesigned in Settings and elsewhere, and the Fitness and Apple TV apps have new home screens.

There’s also evidence of a setting in Messages that would allow you to turn off suggested actions like “Add to Calendar.” The option will be set separately for Calendar, Reminders, Notes, and Maps, but it’s not live yet. 9to5Mac notes that it may not make it into the final version. The code also found evidence of nearby accessory controls in Dynamic Island, the interactive panel at the top of the iPhone’s screen.

According to the 9to5Mac listing, the update will expand Siri's AI features to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. Greek is not included. Also mentioned are user profiles in the Apple TV app, Dual Capture in Group FaceTime, a new Suggestions section in Messages, and a revamped Up Next in Apple Podcasts.

Automatically locking the iPhone when someone grabs it had already appeared in beta 2.

Which iPhones will get iOS 27.2

iOS 27.1 is only for the iPhone Duo, which is scheduled to be released on October 23. The rest of the iPhones are expected to go straight from iOS 27 to iOS 27.2.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple is trying to avoid revealing details about the new foldable iPhone's software in the preview versions. This explanation has not been confirmed by Apple.

The week that iOS 27.2 is expected to be released will also see tvOS 27.2 and HomePod 27.2. That could also be when the first deliveries of the rumored new home products begin, as they aren't expected to ship immediately. The iOS 27.2 date could be earlier if a new device is released with the update pre-installed.

Touchscreen indications on Mac

macOS 27.2 beta 3 contains, according to 9to5Mac, additional hints of touchscreen support: gesture recognition tools in Apple apps and a new gesture when the user presses and holds an icon in the Dock. The site reports that Apple may introduce a MacBook Pro with a touchscreen as early as October. This is an estimate, not a confirmed announcement.
