The Tails project released version 7.15.1 as an emergency security update addressing compromised intermediate certificates from eMudhra.
The update includes Tor Browser 15.0.26 fixing CVE-2026-113470 and applies system-wide certificate blocks.
The new version 7.15.1 addresses an issue with security certificates issued by the company eMudhra that were compromised. This issue could allow those controlling connections, such as malicious Tor network administrators, ISPs, or government agencies, to impersonate legitimate websites using secure connections. Mozilla had already blocked these certificates on October 17.
Who is affected and what is the situation?
The creators of Tails say that the network's dedicated services are not affected by this issue, and they also clarify that so far there is no indication that anyone has used the compromised certificates in real attacks.
How the new update works
Version 7.15.1 updates the browser and completely blocks all certificates originating from eMudhra across the entire system so that they cannot be used by malicious users.

What users should do
Officials recommend that everyone upgrade immediately for security reasons. Those using version 7.0 or later can perform an automatic update, which preserves their saved files.
For those who cannot perform the automatic upgrade, there is the option of a manual process. New users can download the system from the official website tails.net/install/.
Installing the system on an existing USB instead of simply upgrading will delete user saved files.
