What does the orange dot on your Samsung Galaxy Watch screen mean?

A quick look at the interface indicators on Samsung Galaxy Watch models, detailing how unread notification markers, urgent alerts, and status icons function across different system states and how to toggle them off.

The orange dot remains visible on the screen until you check all your notifications, at which point it disappears. If the dot is red instead of orange, it means there is an urgent message that needs your attention as soon as possible.

How to disable the notification

If the orange dot bothers you, you can easily hide it directly from the watch settings. Just go to Settings, then Notifications, then Advanced settings and disable the option to show new notifications on the screen.

The same process can be done from your connected mobile phone. Open the Wearable app, go to the watch settings, then notifications, and finally advanced notification settings to turn off the feature.

Other symbols and what they mean

The watch screen also uses other small symbols to inform you of its status:

  • Telephone with line: At the top it shows that the watch has lost the Bluetooth connection with your phone.
  • Rectangle with cloud: At the top means the watch is connected to the phone via mobile data or Wi-Fi instead of Bluetooth.
  • Padlock: At the top it shows that the watch is locked and requires a code or PIN to open.
  • Blue musical note: At the bottom it appears when an app is playing or has paused music, and you can tap it to control the sound.
  • Green phone icon: At the bottom it appears when the watch or connected mobile is being used for a call.
