Apple's iPhone Duo foldable device launches on October 23 with a $2,000 starting price.

Supply chain constraints and strict quality controls have limited initial availability, pushing online delivery estimates into January.

According to a briefing given to store staff, there will likely be no devices available for walk-ins on launch day. Employees have reportedly been instructed to discourage customers from expecting to be able to purchase the device without pre-ordering. However, it remains unclear whether this directive applies globally to all stores.

The problems in production

The difficulties in manufacturing the new model had been known for some time. In October, it was reported that production was facing extreme problems. Around August, the company feared that it would have to postpone the device to the end of November.

In September, reports reported that the production rate had been limited to a few hundred devices per day, mainly due to strict quality control standards.

The order situation

Despite the obstacles, the company managed to gather sufficient inventory to proceed with the planned launch on October 23rd.

Pre-orders opened on Friday, October 16. However, those attempting to order now are finding through the official website that new orders will not arrive before January 25th.
