Yelp is putting a digital assistant to answer restaurant phone calls for you

Yelp is introducing Check for Me, a feature that uses an AI agent to call restaurants and check wait times on behalf of users.

The platform update also equips its AI assistant with thirty-day chat memory, new list filtering options, and upcoming personalized recommendations.

The feature is called Check for Me and appears on restaurant pages within the app. The user can fill in the number of people in their party and their phone number. The assistant then makes the call to the restaurant, asks how long the wait is, and sends the results to the user via text message.

Last year, the company introduced similar voice solutions for restaurants and service providers. In addition to phone calls, Yelp is also revamping its built-in digital assistant. Through a partnership with OpenTable, users can now make restaurant reservations directly from the app.

The assistant becomes more personalized, remembering preferences from previous conversations, and users can access their chat history for the past thirty days. They can also ask the assistant to set custom reminders for weekend activities.

The company is introducing the ability to create lists of places users have visited or want to visit. These lists support filtering, adding notes, and sharing, and next month will start showing weekly personalized recommendations based on saved items.

Finally, Yelp announced a new paid product called Smart Lead Reply, which costs thirty dollars a month and is aimed at business owners. This tool communicates with customers and assesses their interest, following the guidelines set by the business owner.
