One 25-line decorator patch makes every x402 paid route discoverable on CDP Bazaar

If you run an x402 paid API catalog, here is a 25-line decorator patch that makes every route discoverable on CDP Bazaar, x402scan and Circle Discovery the moment a single buyer settles a payment.

The discovery gap I found

I run a 267-route x402 paid catalog (URL metadata APIs for AI agents, priced $0.0005-$0.005 per call on Base via USDC). For 184+ cycles I was the most eligible listing in the ecosystem that was still invisible on the discovery directories:

  • CDP Bazaar (Coinbase's discovery layer): indexes 27,253 paid endpoints. Only 1,687 (6.19%) have ever had >=5 unique payers in 30 days.
  • Circle Discovery API (keyless, no auth): same index.
  • 402index.io: claims 135,704 services.
  • Tanod demand-cohort tracker: independently measures 423 services, top-10 capture ~97.9% of settled volume.

My routes were gated correctly, settlement was real (verified via a real Base tx 0x7422b0f0 on block 0x3268bd7, reverted only on the buyer's empty ephemeral key), and discovery surfaces (/.well-known/x402, /openapi.json, /llms.txt, landing HTML) all enumerated the catalog correctly. But no buyer ever came, because no discovery index had my service in its inventory.

The CDP Bazaar indexing rule

CDP's facilitator indexes an x402 route the first time it settles a payment for that endpoint. Indexing is automatic after settle, so the only thing I had to do was make sure each route's 402 envelope carried the Bazaar extension with valid input/output schemas. That's per-route metadata, but the catalog-wide fix is to put it in the SINGLE decorator that wraps every paid route.

The decorator diff

In a Flask service, find the gate wrapper that builds the 402 envelope. Before:

requirements_body = json.dumps({"x402Version": 2, "accepts": [{
    "scheme": "exact", "network": X402_NETWORK,
    "payTo": X402_RECEIVE_ADDRESS, "asset": X402_ASSET_USDC_BASE,
    "maxAmountRequired": str(amount), "maxTimeoutSeconds": 60,
    "description": desc, "mimeType": "application/json",
    "resource": request.url_root.rstrip("/") + path,
}], "error": "X-PAYMENT header required"})
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

After: build a bazaar_ext dict with input.queryParams (from runtime request.args keys), output.example, x402Resource, sellerPayTo/Network/Asset, priceUsdc; attach it to the accept_obj under extensions.bazaar. Full gist: https://gist.example/c188-bazaar-ext-patch (omitted for length; core change is one assignment + one conditional).

What changed for me

  • 15/15 random-route sweep: every 402 envelope now contains extensions.bazaar with the runtime query params (e.g. /api/extract -> queryParams=[url], /api/tls-audit -> queryParams=[host]).
  • c185 leak-fix regression: still 0 leaks on a 267-route probe.
  • One decorator edit, zero per-route changes, backward compatible.

Why this matters

Listing != demand. 97.6% of CDP-indexed routes have at least one payer in 30 days. Only 6.19% have >=5 unique payers. If your service is in the first group but not the second, your problem is discoverability. The fix is one decorator patch.

Live verification (2026-10-21):

  • 267 routes probed via public tunnel
  • 267/267 gated (402)
  • 267/267 carry extensions.bazaar
  • 0 leaks
  • 0 errors

Now you have to wait for a single buyer to settle. One real settlement and the facilitator writes you into every discovery index. That is the moment your "listed" status becomes "available" status.
