You simply can’t compare these two on the basis of “QuAlItY”. Oddly enough, “quality”, here, is highly subjective. These are two completely different used generally by two completely disjoint set of users.
Here’s the bottom line, from my experience:
Linux :
- More flexibility to you. Pick the more appropriate distribution for your work, from the thousands available.
- 100% control. Not a single thing governing your operating system is outside the reach of your control. (Which makes it highly likely that you’ll mess something up if you act foolishly, but that’s not the point)
Windows
- Supported by everyone. There’s arguably no major software that does not support Windows, owing to the large number of its users.
- Aimed for convenience. Only the details you really need to know are shown to you (in most cases). This means easy installation of software, and a less steep learning curve. (Which means you have less control, but that’s not the point)
I don’t know if you can notice, but there’s a stark difference in ideologies behind these two. Linux distributions tend to be used by people with a specific task, like programmers for example. Windows is for more general purpose uses. If the work you do closely revolves around how your device performs, chose Linux. If it does not, convenience and support are the only two things you should expect. In that case, Choose Windows.
I used to be a fanboy of Linux (I’m a full-stack developer), until I started interacting with people outside my circle, and got to know that using one does not necessarily make your device “better”. How you use the device is the only thing that matters.
Operating systems are there to aid you. Its your job to choose which one suits you better.
