Apprentice: teach a task once, replay it with fresh inputs

Hacktoberfest: Maintainer Spotlight

I'm building Apprentice, a local Windows automation project with a simple idea: demonstrate a task, review the generated YAML workflow, and replay it with fresh inputs.

The current developer preview supports:

  • Browser workflows: navigation, forms, selections, downloads, and uploads.
  • File operations: creating, copying, moving, renaming, and deleting files or folders within reviewed workspace roots.
  • Projects and terminals: opening verified VS Code workspaces and running reviewed PowerShell commands and scripts.

The sample browser workflow signs in, exports a CSV, uploads it, and submits a monthly report. The month and amount become reusable inputs.

Workflow generation runs locally using recorded labels and rules. Passwords are requested each run, uncertain steps require review, and each replay step must pass its result check before execution continues. Sensitive actions require confirmation.

Status: Phases 0–5 are implemented. Browser automation is the MVP; general native control and clipboard replay are planned for Phase 6 and much more
