I’ve been working on a project called OccupyHifi, built around something I’ve been interested in for a long time: music, headphones, hi-fi equipment, and the experience of actually sitting down and listening.
The idea started from a simple observation. There’s plenty of information online about audio equipment, but a lot of it can become focused on specifications, measurements, or the latest products.
I wanted to create a space that also talks about the experience behind the equipment — how different headphones and systems fit into real listening habits, how music affects the way we think about sound, and why certain pieces of gear become meaningful to people.
OccupyHifi covers topics ranging from headphone and hi-fi gear to music, artists, bass, stereo systems, and personal listening experiences.
Some of the content is more equipment-focused, while other pieces are simply about the relationship between music and the way we experience it.
One thing I’ve particularly enjoyed while building the site is realizing that audio isn't just about buying better equipment. The source material, the room, the headphones, the system, and even the listener's preferences all influence the experience. That has made me think differently about how an audio-focused website should present information.
I’ve also learned that building a niche website is less about trying to cover everything and more about developing a clear identity.
I’m still figuring out the right balance between technical information, personal experiences, music discussion, and content that someone completely new to hi-fi can understand.
That’s where I’d really appreciate some community feedback.
