CodeFootprint: More Convenience, More Protection, More Peace of Mind
During development, file changes can happen very quickly. A save, a deletion, a move, a rename, or even an automatic change made by a tool can leave developers wondering:
- What exactly changed?
- What was deleted?
- Can I still get the previous version of this file back?
CodeFootprint is a Mac app designed for this situation. It helps developers track file change history in local project folders.
After the user selects a folder to monitor, CodeFootprint records supported text and code file changes locally, including edits, deletions, timelines, and diff details.
When a file is modified unexpectedly, deleted by mistake, or changed many times during development, developers can open CodeFootprint to review the history, see when the file changed, understand what was added or removed, and recover important content when needed.
Not a Git Replacement
CodeFootprint is not meant to replace Git or any code editor. It works more like an independent local record of real file changes. Whether changes come from an editor, terminal, Finder, scripts, or other development tools, CodeFootprint helps keep a clearer history as long as those changes happen inside the folders selected by the user.
AI Tool Integration
It also supports exporting trace files. Developers can export change history and share it with different AI tools for analysis, debugging, review, or handoff. This is useful when working across multiple AI tools, because it reduces repeated explanation and helps the next tool understand what happened before.
100% Local and Private
CodeFootprint runs fully on device. It does not require an account, does not rely on cloud services, and does not upload project files. All records are stored in the local storage location selected by the user.
