10 White Label SSL Reseller Programmes Compared: APIs, ACME and WHMCS Modules

A client's new site shows "Not secure" next to the password field, and the first call goes to whoever built or hosts it. If you send them elsewhere to buy a certificate, you also hand over every renewal after it. A white label SSL reseller programme lets you sell the certificate under your own brand instead. This is a condensed version of a review of 10 programmes from iwhitelabel.io's SSL Reseller Platforms category.

Dev shortlist: if you want certificates sold inside your own product, look at the APIs first. SSL.com (SWS REST API with ACME support and a sandbox, and it can call your endpoints to approve each order), Domain Name API (REST API covering the full lifecycle, with an OT&E sandbox), SSLs.com (Namecheap reseller API for order creation, validation, reissue and renewal), GoGetSSL and SSL2BUY (REST APIs plus WHMCS modules).

Why renewals are now the hard part

Under CA/Browser Forum Ballot SC-081, the maximum validity of a public TLS certificate drops in steps:

  • 200 days for certificates issued from 15 March 2026
  • 100 days from 15 March 2027
  • 47 days from 15 March 2029

A certificate stops being a once-a-year invoice and becomes a regular job that touches the server. If ordering, validation and installation are automated, you keep the client. If renewals are done by hand, they turn into support tickets.

What the reseller platform actually does

The certificate authority still validates and issues the certificate. The platform gives you wholesale pricing and a way to get orders to the CA: a ready-made storefront, a partner portal, an API, or a module inside billing software such as WHMCS. "White label" means your customer only deals with your brand. It doesn't hide the CA: the certificate still names its issuer, such as DigiCert or Sectigo, because that's what browsers trust.

Not every programme hands you the customer. In a traditional reseller setup, the provider holds the contract, takes payment and sends the renewal emails. GoDaddy's programme sits in between: your brand goes on the storefront, emails and support, but a GoDaddy entity holds the contract, runs checkout and pays you a commission.

What about Let's Encrypt?

Many hosts already switch Let's Encrypt on through cPanel's AutoSSL, and for a brochure site or blog a free DV certificate can be all that's needed. Per the Let's Encrypt FAQ, its limits are:

  • DV only. No OV or EV, so no verified company name in the certificate.
  • Wildcards need DNS-01. Your tooling has to be able to edit the customer's DNS records.
  • 90-day certificates, no exceptions. If a renewal job fails after a server migration or DNS change, the certificate expires. Let's Encrypt also ended its expiry reminder emails in June 2025, so you need your own monitoring.
  • No warranty and no support desk, only docs and community forums.
  • Websites only. No code signing, S/MIME or Verified Mark Certificates.

For most white label resellers it works as the base tier: include free DV on every hosting plan, then sell what Let's Encrypt doesn't cover (OV/EV, wildcard and multi-domain, code signing, S/MIME, VMC) plus a managed renewal service.

Notes for people writing the integration

  • SSL.com is itself a publicly trusted CA. Its API is free for partners and comes with ACME support and a sandbox. You can hand ACME credentials to your own customers, and SSL.com calls your endpoints to approve each order and deliver the certificate. It also offers a custom-branded issuing CA it hosts, for companies that want their own name on the certificate. No WHMCS module was found.
  • Domain Name API's REST API covers CSR checks, domain validation, status tracking, certificate retrieval and reissues, with a separate OT&E sandbox. Sub-reseller accounts can sell domains but not SSL.
  • SSLs.com (Namecheap's sister company) is the one Namecheap presents as the way to "go truly white label", because the whole buying flow sits on your site. Public detail on the branded customer side is thin, so plan to build that yourself.
  • GoGetSSL's WHMCS plugin handles one-time and recurring billing, cPanel AutoSSL installation, SAN/UCC certificates and multi-year orders. It also integrates with HostBill, Blesta, RootPanel and ISP BillManager.
  • InterNetX can push system notifications to your own HTTPS endpoint. The full white label layer (your login URL, design, logo, favicon) comes with AutoDNS Pro at €49.90 a month.
  • Synergy Wholesale's open-source WHMCS module sells certificates through your own payment gateways and email templates. A few tasks, such as resending validation emails, stay in Synergy's own system.
  • Ownership check: The SSL Store and GoGetSSL are both run by Rapid Web Services, LLC, a DigiCert subsidiary, according to their privacy notices. If you want two suppliers for redundancy, pair one of them with a provider outside that group.

What to test before you go live

  1. Every notification email. Validation and renewal emails are where a supplier name or a buy price most often slips through.
  2. A full test order from purchase to installation on a real cPanel account.
  3. API coverage for reissue and renewal, not just the first order. ACME products are listed by GoGetSSL and SSL2BUY, and SSL.com includes ACME support with its API.
  4. Server migrations. Moving a site to new infrastructure is a common point for a certificate to be left behind, so make sure your monitoring catches it.
