Corsair iCUE, Razer Synapse, Logitech G Hub: background overhead

Peripheral software for RGB control and macro management runs constantly in the background. Here's how much it costs and what to do about it.

Logitech G Hub

G Hub is notorious for CPU overhead. It runs a Node.js runtime for its plugin system — a JavaScript engine just for a mouse driver.

CPU usage: 0.5-2% baseline, spikes during profile switches or when apps come into focus.
RAM usage: 150-300MB.

Alternative: Logitech G Hub Lite (beta, lighter), or Logitech Gaming Software (older, lighter).

Razer Synapse

Similar Electron-based architecture. Multiple processes: Razer Synapse 3, RazerCentral, Razer Licensing Service.

CPU: 0.5-1.5% baseline.
RAM: 200-400MB combined.

Corsair iCUE

iCUE is lighter than G Hub but still present. Manages lighting, fan curves, and macro profiles.

The practical recommendation

If you only use default settings (no macros, no custom RGB patterns), you don't need the software running during gaming. Lighting profiles are stored on-device and persist after the software closes.

Close peripheral software before gaming:

Stop-Process -Name "LGHUBUpdater" -Force
Stop-Process -Name "LGHUB" -Force
Stop-Process -Name "RazerCentral" -Force
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

Or disable from startup and launch manually when you need to change settings.
