Growth and Rediscovery: My 2025 Retrospective

My 2025 was a year full of unexpected turns and opportunities. Life events that left me star struck and amazed...and disappointed along with heartbroken.

Needless to say, 2025 was quite the unforgettable year.

I'd like to take this time to reflect back on this year and share what I've learned and move forward with all the skills I've obtained. 2025 was not like any other year and before I wrap up, here are lessons, wins and improvements from this year:

Lessons

1) Identifying shifts and patterns and finding a new path forward

Job markets shift and change. So should the way a professional think about where their career trajectory might go. Throughout my years out of college, I've seen & heard first hand accounts from people struggling to land their first job or internship. As someone's who's had her fair share of sailing through rough waters, I've learned that the best route for success comes from the most unexpected of places and people. Even if there's a career that you originally did not have interest in, use that career as a stepping stone for something greater. Who knows? maybe you might come to find fulfillment in that new career instead of the academic path you initially chose year(s) ago.

2) Don't connect a "bad year" to your own self worth

I'll admit - this year wasn't the best in terms of career growth. This can feel like a total failure in an annual review, but within the past five years, this "bad year" came out to be like a necessary pivot or a season of resilience that can set the stage for a later win. It provides perspective and self-compassion. Which moves into my next point...

Wins

1) Changing Careers to a different industry

Change can be scary, especially during a tough job market. During my time as a STEM instructor, I remember just how much I wanted to become a Cyber professional but I decided after some time this simply wasn't the path for me. Maybe it was all the programming, engineering and robotics that dissuaded me from my studies. Needless to say, I'm glad I've made a change to an industry where I find more enjoyment and a better fit.

2) Seeing one of my favorite singers live in person

Okay, this one is personal but this still counts as a personal win. I had the chance to see a personal favorite singer of mine live on stage this year!

Improvement

1) Don't waste time and ask for help

Wasting time at a job or program of study will have you question if you're in the right place. Don't overthink and just go with your gut if this is the right path for you. People are much nicer than I've come to realize if you give them a chance.

With this knowledge, I hope that someone got a nugget of wisdom from this former teacher. Happy New Year!
