I have a confession. Over the past month I've set up content distribution on Bluesky, Telegram, DEV.to, GitHub, and a small YouTube channel. I built automation for three of them. I wrote a positioning doc. I made cover images.
Then I checked the analytics.
Bluesky: 5 followers. Zero engagement on every post.
Telegram: 2 to 3 views per message. Mostly me.
GitHub: a few stars from friends.
YouTube shorts: single-digit views.
DEV.to: one article, one reaction, page views not even populated yet.
This is what being a solopreneur in 2026 actually looks like before it works. I thought posting on more platforms would multiply my reach. It doesn't. It dilutes it.
Why more platforms didn't help
The mistake was treating each platform as a separate problem to solve. I set up Telegram because I kept hearing that consistent posting wins. I set up Bluesky because the API is free and I figured I'd regret not trying. Each setup felt productive. Each one added a cron job, a token to manage, a script to debug.
But the work that compounds is the opposite of that. Compounding work is one place, one message, repeated until it lands. Not five places with thin messages.
I wrote five platform-specific versions of the same post. None of them were good. Good posts take time to write. Five versions of a mediocre post is still mediocre, just five times.
The pivot
I'm cutting Telegram back to one post a week. I'm keeping the Bluesky bot but dropping the dice roll from a 30% post rate to maybe 10%. I'm focusing my real writing time on DEV.to, because it's the only surface with measurable page views and Google indexing.
This is going to feel like giving up. It's not. It's the difference between being busy and being effective.
What I'd do differently
If you're starting from zero, pick one platform. Write ten posts before you set up a second one. The second platform is a distraction until the first one is working.
I know this sounds obvious. I knew it when I started. I did it anyway.
