AI-powered code completion tools have become indispensable for modern frontend development, with Continue.dev and Cursor leading the charge for React developers. As React 19 rolls out with new features like the use() hook, Server Components, and improved concurrent rendering, we pitted the latest releases — Continue.dev 0.9 and Cursor 1.0 — against each other in a rigorous accuracy test focused on React 19 component libraries.

Test Setup

We designed a 50-task test suite targeting common workflows for React 19 component library development, using three widely adopted libraries with React 19 support:

  • Material UI 6 (stable React 19 compatibility)
  • Ant Design 5.22 (full React 19 support)
  • Chakra UI 3 Beta (optimized for React 19 features)

Test tasks included creating controlled form components, integrating API data fetching, implementing React 19’s new use() hook for resource loading, styling components with library-specific utilities, handling event propagation, and validating component props. We evaluated four core metrics:

  4. Time to Accept: Average time a developer took to review and accept a suggestion.

Test Results

Cursor 1.0 outperformed Continue.dev 0.9 across most metrics, with a 6-point lead in overall accuracy:

Continue.dev 0.9 showed strong improvements over its prior 0.8 release, with a 10% boost to context awareness thanks to an expanded 16k token context window. It excelled at tasks requiring adherence to existing project patterns, such as reusing custom component wrappers for Material UI and following team-specific prop validation rules. However, it lagged on React 19-specific features: only 65% of suggestions correctly implemented the use() hook, and 15% of Server Component suggestions included invalid client-side only API calls.

Cursor 1.0 Performance

Cursor 1.0, which added dedicated React 19 fine-tuning in its latest release, achieved 92% accuracy on React 19 new feature tasks. It correctly handled use() hook implementations 89% of the time, and only 5% of Server Component suggestions had invalid API usage. Cursor also showed better context awareness for component library imports, automatically pulling in correct Ant Design and Chakra UI components 85% of the time, compared to Continue.dev’s 72%.

  • Cursor 1.0’s faster time to accept (1.7s vs 2.1s) reduces developer friction for repetitive component tasks.

Conclusion

For developers building new projects with React 19 component libraries, Cursor 1.0 offers higher out-of-the-box accuracy and better support for React 19’s latest features. Continue.dev 0.9 remains a strong choice for teams with existing codebases and custom workflow requirements, thanks to its flexible configuration options. As both tools continue to iterate, React 19 support will likely become a key differentiator for frontend-focused AI code completion tools.
